Title of Kokeshi: Story of Tojin Okichi

Remark: There is a story about Saito Okichi. It is about sad geisha story who had to leave her fiance to become mistress of Harris (Commodore Perry who opened a trade agreement with Japan and the West). Japanese government also forced her to become mistress hoping for get a good treaty. The Japanese government offered her fiance ship carpenter Samurai status for leaving her to Harris. However, Harris left her when he had to go back to the US five years later. Okichi became deeply hurt and killed herself later. However, some people say it actually Harris was hiring nurse or maid to take care himself and Okichi became his mistress for the money, so on.....

This kokeshi won several Kokeshi contest award.
