This is a Beautiful Vintage Wooden Creative Kokeshi Doll by Kishi Sadao (1932-1998)
This particular design won the Prime Minister's Award in 1968. Titled Maisuzume. VHer intriguing shape gives her an elegant appearance.
Creative Kokeshi is a deviation from traditional wooden dolls originating in Japan. They are are completely free in terms of shape, design and color. It is the unrestrained imagination of the individual artist that creates these small works of art. Creative Kokeshi are relatively new, having developed after World War II.
