The unusual expression is the best part of this 50+ year old traditional kokeshi doll. This rare vintage handmade wooden doll is by master artisan Bunkichi Sato, who made kokeshi dolls for over half a century and died in 2008 at age 86!  Sato's dolls often had wonderful floral accents and this one is representative of that approach.
