A Ginzan Kokeshi, a distinctive subcategory within the Narugo Family of dolls, is presented in this traditional, rare vintage piece by Izu Mamoro. Recognized for their straight bodies that subtly taper at the waist, Narugo dolls hold a prominent position among well-acclaimed families of Kokeshi dolls. This particular piece features hand-painted red Chrysanthemum (kiku) on the front of the body, framed by small Rokoru moya - varied red circular bands at the top and bottom. The doll's bangs are meticulously detailed, with hair fringes becoming a defining characteristic of the head, accompanied by vivid eyes, a marubana (round nose), and red lips. Signed by Izu Mamoru (b.1925) on the bottom, this doll reflects the mastery of the artist from Sado, Obanazawa, in the Yamagata prefecture.
