An exceptionally rare treasure - Kokeshi Doll “Shourai” “Future” by Tsujita Ryozo.

This original Japanese kokeshi doll, entirely handcrafted and hand-decorated, boasts a beautifully detailed kimono adorned with motifs of spring wheat ears and gold-colored pine trees.

Created by the renowned and unconventional artist Tsujita Ryozo, this kokeshi doll is a testament to his unique artistic journey. Born in 1923 in Odawara, Kanagawa prefecture, Ryozo was a prisoner of labor in Siberia until the late 1950s following his service in the Second World War. Upon his release, he began creating kokeshi dolls, earning numerous accolades including the prestigious "Prime Minister's Award" in 1956 and 1981.

Standing at an unusual height of approximately 25.5cm, this kokeshi doll is a rarity in the world of kokeshi collecting, where most dolls are around 18cm. Its elegant, feminine design is highlighted by its lacquered black color, a departure from the typical aesthetic of kokeshi dolls. The doll's long, barely sketched hair is reminiscent of the traditional taregami hairstyle of the Heian period (794-1185), a symbol of ultimate female beauty.

Weight: 871g

The artist's signature is engraved under the body of the doll, a mark of its authenticity and craftsmanship.
