This is a traditional Japanese tea called dokudami cha (literally translated as “houttuynia cordata tea”). Although it is not as well known as green tea or hojicha (roasted green tea), it has many health benefits.

This tea is made completely from dokudami and is individually packaged in a tea bag. With its roasting process, this tea has less odor and bitterness unique to dokudami.

This traditional Japanese tea helps rid your body of harmful toxins and fight infectious ailments. The Japanese consider dokudami a cure-all plant and affectionately call it jūyaku, meaning "ten medicines." Its antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-fungal benefits are subjects of intense scientific interest.

It is free of caffeine: it is ideal for a cup of refreshment before bedtime.

INSTRUCTIONS:

For teapot serving, add one teabag to a teapot with hot water. For the first round of tea, let it brew for 30~60 seconds. From the second round, you can adjust the brewing time according to your preference.

For decocting, put one teabag into a pot filled with approximately 1 liter of boiled water, and heat it for 5 minutes at a low heat. You can heat it longer if you wish to make the tea thicker.

For cold tea, put two teabags into the pot and add 500ml of cold water. Let it sit overnight in the refrigerator.
